Commitment
of a New Dog *Please
Read*
The purchase of
a dog is a huge commitment. I ask that
you not enter into this
choice quickly and think about how having a living,
breathing animal will impact your everyday life. In my
opinion it will enhance your daily life, make you smile and have
hours of entertainment. However, this is a commitment
that will last the lifetime
of your dogs or dogs. Dogs require "Patience and Love." It
is not something that every person is able to do.
Once you have decided
that you want to commit a decade (10+ years) or
so to caring for a dog, you
need to find the right dog. There are several ways to go
about this. One way is to visit local animal
shelters. Another is to contact a local Kennel club for a list
of breeders who have pledged to health clearances on all
breeding stock and who attend dog shows and seminars that
teach this person the wacky world of genetics. A
search on the AKC site can help you find a local kennel club.
Nothing
in life is a sure thing but doesn't it seem to reason
that you should find a pet that took months, if not years to
plan it's birth? Remember
you will be living daily with
this wonderful new family member. Do yourself a
favor and do your research to find the breed and breeder best
for your lifestyle.
Something About
Me
Now something about me and
my wonderful collies. I have been in love with collies since I was young.
Think I've watched every Lassie show that was ever on TV and every Lassie
movie. I'm a hopeless soul when it comes to
collies.
Our neighbor had a
beautiful Tri color collie, when I was growing up and I used to go over to pet
her every chance I had. She was always happy to see me and smothered me
with "collie kisses." They would even let me take her for walks after I
passed their "walking and control tests." I was hooked at a young
age.
I was able to rescue five collie/shepard puppies from the pound
over numerous years and trained them for Service Dogs. It was a fantastic
combination. What great "all around" dogs they were. When my kids
were young, one of the dogs herded five kids up to the house after a botched
camping outing. A mountain lion decided to join the camping kids and my
collie/shepard herded them together, circling them to keep them safe until they
reached the back door. His name was "Thunder."
It wouldn't be
until years later that I would be able to get my first collie. Ha, years later
is right! I'm getting up in age and fell hopelessly in love with three
collies! Not one but three! I would later fall in love with a few
more. These collies are so loving, smart, soothing and giving, that my
life feels full. I suppose that some people would say I'm nuts to have
such big dogs at my age but they are so gentle. I can't imagine being
without them in my life.
I am hoping to train some of them for Service Dogs and also be able to visit
some of the local nursing homes to bring young and older folk some
"collie joy." As soon as our "Very Cold and Snowy" winter weather
breaks, I'll continue the collies training.
I
have decided to breed my collies and share the "Love of The
Collie." The parents and puppies will have the necessary tests
done to assure you are getting a strong and healthy collie puppy.
My puppies will be loved, hugged and kissed daily just like my
big collies. Breeding any kind of animal takes allot of work,
devotion, love and money. There is nothing much left over
(money), if anything, after puppies are born, vet visits and all the
necessary things that are required for breeding. So if someone is
into breeding for money, they should do something else.
If you are not planning on breeding your
dog, no matter what the breed, get your dog spayed or neutered. Not having to deal with a female
coming into heat, along with the mess or a male dog jumping on your furniture
and leaving stains or trying to get some love in his life can be very
stressful!
I hope you enjoy my site. I will be adding more
pages, links and anything else I can think of to help you enjoy your faithful
friend whether it be a collie or another
breed.
